About BMTCguide

BMTCguide is a desktop application which enables the user to perform complex queries on route details of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses offline.

Apart from the basic functionality, where the user can enter source and destination, and the software provides the set of buses that the user can take to get to the destination from the source, the software also provides a number of other features - The took can provide the user with a list of buses that stop at a particular location, the list of stops of a particular route number, and so on.

Pretty much everything in the tool is linked with each other. If a user is currently on a page that shows a list of bus routes, he can click on any of the routes to get further details about each stop of that route. If the user is on a page that shows a list of bus stops for a particular bus route, he can click on any bus stop to get a list of every bus that stops there.

A few other details that the tool provides are lists of important bus depots and TTMCs in the city, as well as different types of bus services that the BMTC provides.

That's Medappa, Konark, me and Kumar from left to right.

It's hard to explain how much we learnt about the BMTC while doing this project. Just a couple of facts - at the time of doing this project, there were 2903 bus routes in Bangalore, and 2480 different bus stops.

And when I travelled from home to college everyday, I travelled in a direct bus and passed through six bus stops. To think that there were 2902 other routes in this city, and 2473 other bus stops made my twenty minute journey feel ridiculously insignificant.
